Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

Hello Everyone! Angela Evans here, Chefbob.com’s Pastry Chef. I wanted to blog about this year and how it’s half way over! I can’t believe it! Time flies when you’re having fun. That’s what my dad always says. We are having fun here at Chefbob.com. We have done so many beautiful and unique weddings this year and we can’t wait for more. Whether it’s bar-tending or working on a wedding cake, I am always so happy and thankful that I have a loving family that supports me. When I started working with my dad I was very young working the cash register standing on top of phone books at his bakery in Springville, AL. From there I went to hostess at our tea room the Chocolate Cottage in Oneonta, AL, and then waitress at our cafe the Antique Mall in Trussville, AL. My parents were very encouraging about letting us follow our dreams, if it was in the family business or elsewhere. I ventured out to be a banker when I was 19, was an engineering assistant when I was 20 and a produce manager at the age of 22. All of these jobs were a learning experience, even if they were good or bad, but in the end all my jobs led me back to my family. When my dad called me and said he needed my help I was all for it. He started teaching me the ways of the pastry art. I (of course) messed up a few times. None of my cakes came out good at first, but when I practiced and kept asking a bunch of questions over and over again so that I know I had it right, finally everything came together. I am learning every single day. I heard a saying “If you’ve learned everything there is to know you must be dead.” I believe that. Every day I learn something new, even if it’s not related to baking or cooking. I learned recently that I have been tying my shoes wrong all these years. You go under not over the rabbit ear and it’s a tighter and stronger knot. Also, driving is still not easy, sometimes you get challenged by 18 wheelers and have to keep your cool. My passion is for my love in baking, but also in my love for my family. I wouldn’t be here without them. My father, my mother, my 2 brothers, my little sister, and my husband are what I live for. I wake up every day happy to go to work, happy that I have a job that I love, and happy that I have a wonderful family that loves me. If you are wondering what your passion is, just wake up one day and think about what you love. If you are doing that then great, but if you wake up and are not passionate about what you doing now, then change it. It’s not too late. A lot of people find their passions later in life and I am so happy that I have found mine. The only other passion that I have is to be a mother one day. That my friends, is going to be an amazing adventure and I can’t wait for it! Until that day, Cheers to all of you in finding your passion and hoping for a bigger and brighter future ahead.
